{"id":1068,"date":"2026-06-17T16:41:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T16:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.labereee.com\/?p=1068"},"modified":"2026-06-17T20:26:21","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T20:26:21","slug":"the-wealth-beliefs-i-had-to-unlearn-as-a-first-generation-latina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.labereee.com\/en\/the-wealth-beliefs-i-had-to-unlearn-as-a-first-generation-latina\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wealth Beliefs I Had to Unlearn as a First-Generation Latina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most of my life, I thought my biggest challenge would be learning how to make more money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hardest part wasn&#8217;t earning more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was unlearning the beliefs I carried about money, success, and what I was allowed to have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a first-generation Latina raised by hardworking immigrant parents, I grew up surrounded by love, sacrifice, and resilience. My parents taught me the value of hard work, gratitude, and perseverance. Those lessons helped shape who I am today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But along with those beautiful lessons came beliefs about money that no longer served the woman I was becoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To create a different future, I had to learn to question some of the stories I had accepted as truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belief #1: &#8220;Wanting More Is Greedy&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Growing up, I often heard messages that implied wanting more money, a bigger life, or greater success was somehow selfish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good people were humble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good people didn&#8217;t ask for too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good people were grateful for what they had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And while gratitude is important, I eventually realized gratitude and ambition can exist together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can be deeply grateful for my life and still desire growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can appreciate where I am while working toward where I want to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wanting more doesn&#8217;t make me greedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It makes me human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belief #2: &#8220;Hard Work Alone Creates Wealth&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I watched people work incredibly hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Physical labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sacrifice after sacrifice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet many were still struggling financially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For years, I believed the answer was simply to work harder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then I entered the business world and saw something different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I saw people creating systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leveraging knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Making strategic decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creating opportunities instead of only trading time for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hard work matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But hard work without strategy often leads to exhaustion instead of freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal isn&#8217;t to work harder forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is to build something that works for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belief #3: &#8220;Money Problems Are Normal&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a long time, financial stress felt normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Living paycheck to paycheck felt normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being overwhelmed felt normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Watching people worry about bills felt normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because it was common, I assumed it was simply part of adulthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, I realized that common does not mean healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Financial peace may not have been common in my environment, but that doesn&#8217;t mean it isn&#8217;t possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had to stop accepting struggle as my permanent identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belief #4: &#8220;Successful Women Have to Do Everything Alone&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This one was deeply rooted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believed strong women handled everything themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They didn&#8217;t ask for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They didn&#8217;t need support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They carried the weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the more successful women I studied, the more I noticed a pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They had mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Support systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Success wasn&#8217;t created in isolation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was created through collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learning to ask for help wasn&#8217;t weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belief #5: &#8220;My Wealth Belongs to Someone Else&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This belief took me years to recognize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a wife, mother, employee, and supporter of other people&#8217;s dreams, I became very comfortable helping others build wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I celebrated everyone else&#8217;s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I worked behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I solved problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I helped businesses grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But somewhere along the way, I stopped believing I was allowed to create wealth for myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I unconsciously believed wealth belonged to the business owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CEO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entrepreneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day I challenged that belief, everything started to shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I realized I am not just here to support other people&#8217;s visions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am allowed to have a vision of my own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belief #6: &#8220;People Like Me Don&#8217;t Become Wealthy&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This might be the most dangerous belief of all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because anyone explicitly said it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because I rarely saw examples that looked like me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First-generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bilingual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teen mom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Latina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Corporate accountant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Construction operations leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Business owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aspiring CFO advisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you don&#8217;t see examples, it&#8217;s easy to assume something isn&#8217;t possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then I started finding women who had done it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women who built businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women who created wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women who changed the trajectory of their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And suddenly, the impossible became visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they could do it, maybe I could too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I Believe Now<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, my beliefs around wealth look very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe money is a tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe wealth allows us to create opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe ambitious women can also be kind women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe financial success and faith can coexist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe building wealth can be an act of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe first-generation women are capable of creating entirely new financial legacies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And most importantly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe we don&#8217;t have to inherit every belief we were given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some beliefs are meant to be honored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others are meant to be healed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The moment we give ourselves permission to question them, we create space for something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, that new story looks like abundance, leadership, impact, and freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I
